The Shetland Sheepdog, affectionately known as the Sheltie, is a breed admired worldwide for its intelligence, beauty, and devotion to family. Originally from the Shetland Islands of Scotland, Shelties were bred as herding dogs, which explains their agility, sharp minds, and natural desire to please.

Shelties are loyal, affectionate, and highly trainable. They thrive on companionship and form strong bonds with their families, making them wonderful dogs for both show and home. Known for their alertness and sensitivity, they are also excellent watchdogs without being aggressive.

Appearance
Shelties are elegant, medium-sized dogs with a flowing double coat, expressive almond-shaped eyes, and a graceful outline. Their beauty is matched only by their versatility: they excel in conformation, obedience, agility, and as beloved companions.

Recognized Sheltie colors include:
   •    Sable (ranging from golden to mahogany, always with black-tipped hairs)
   •    Blue Merle (a striking silver-blue with black marbling, often with blue or partially blue eyes)
   •    Tri-Color (black coat with rich tan and white markings)
   •    Bi-Black (pure black with white markings, no tan)
   •    Bi-Blue (blue merle pattern with white markings, no tan)

Shelties require regular grooming to maintain their luxurious coats, along with daily exercise and mental stimulation. They are active, intelligent dogs who love to learn and be included in family life. With proper care, Shelties typically live 12–14 years and bring joy every step of the way.

At North Star Shelties & Co., we are committed to preserving these qualities—producing Shelties that embody the breed standard in both beauty and temperament.
